the summary of the lego movie is the bad guy is trying to glue everything down to keep it all perfect but the builder (emmet) and his friends convince everyone that nothing needs to be perfect and that the things that people make are beautiful

the main message for the lego movie is that teamwork is always the best choice and nothing has to be a certain way to make it perfect , creativity, to believe in yourself and others, everybody is special in their own way

The lego movie : Industry Research
lo, to research the process, companies and regulators behind the film industry

Regulation
regulators are usually that either give something an age rating or check that it meets certain acceptable standers

Why is it important for film regulation to exist?
The BBFC is responsible for classifying films that have a cinema and DVD release. The BBFC uses published Classification Guidelines for certain age ranges, ensuring that the content of the film is age appropriate and that children or young people do not see films that are unsuitable for them.

The BBFC used to be called the British Board of Film Censors. Why do you think it changed its name?

In 1984, the organisation changed its name to "reflect the fact that classification plays a far larger part in the board's work than censorship". At that time it was given responsibility for classifying videos for hire or purchase to view in the home as well as films shown in cinemas.

Narrative Theory
lo, to explore the narrative and apply narrative theory to the lego movie

the lego movie fits into postmodern category because it challenges the typical character roles e.g the main character is portrayed as a loner and not a superhero in this film not egocentric batman is a superhero in a different film but not this one etc

Equilibrium  - Emmet is a builder the town is all normal they all built from the instruction manuals
Disruption - Lord Business wants to craggle the world and keep everything in its place
Recognition of disruption - Wild style finds Emmet and takes him through all the worlds after he finds the piece of resistance, they realise lord business plans

The hero - Emmet
The villain - Lord business
The donor - ventruvius
the helper - wyldstyle
the princess - wyldstyle
the princess father - vitruvius
the dispatcher - ventruvius
the false hero - batman

Vertical Integration
vertical integration - where a company owns the production companies, distributing companies they use to make to make their film so they all get their profits and don't have to pay separate companies to do it for them
Two benefits of vertical integration are, it helps increase profits because if they own the production and distribution companies they dont have to pay separate companies to do it for them and they get to keep all of their profits.

Target Audience
lo, to identify audience using demographics and psychographics
Targets a family audience
young kids who play with lego
parents who played with it when they were young too
young adult cinema - goers
little kids would watch the lego movie because of the lego that they probably enjoy and are familiar with, the theme of creativity, the bright colours and child humour
Parents would watch the lego movie because they may enjoy  lego and also because the main message in the lego movie is for teamwork and you can be whoever you want in life and the parents would want their child to think that too because its a good message to put out there
young adults\ teens would watch the lego movie because they would go with like little siblings or something because it has a good message for them and they may also enjoy the film theirselves
How has it got heart
they go for a laugh, a cry, to get angry and to show emotions

Marketing
Tent Pole production -  In broadcast programming and motion pictures, a tent-pole or tentpole is a program or film that supports the financial performance of a film studio or television network. It is an analogy for the way a strong central pole provides a stable structure to a tent.
Because warmer bro's own lots of different companies who make lots of different films and such so if one fails then they wont get much profit from it so if they make a really successful film then it makes up for the fact that they made a really rubbish one
it supports other parts of the company so you don't have parts failing finically

video game released on 4th February
a website enabled fans to make versions of themselves
If warner bros owned different companies like game companies it means that they dont have to pay a different company to make their product because they own it, this means that they can make lots of different products to promote their movie because they are keeping all of the profits from owning the other companies.

TV trailers usually show the main action and the main character so they can persuade people to watch the whole thing because it might look exciting
the adverts were for the British heart foundation, Confused.com, premier inn and BT
They made a whole add break out of lego and they didn't  have to pay. They made adverts based on the British heart foundation ,Premier  inn, BT and Confused.com. They made it live on ITV on a Sunday and over six million  people watched it. They also put the ad break on youtube and because youtube is free to watch things over two million people searched the add break up online to re watch and share it. Their add break was featured in most newspapers and it went viral. Everyone knew about the lego movie and they didn't have to pay to have their add break aired because the other companies wants to collaborate with lego so they paid it for theirselves.

explain how the lego movie trailer uses two elements of media language to target different audiences.

One element used in the lego movie trailer is miss en scene. For example, they used bright and vibrant colours. This might help target the audience as the film is mainly aimed for children and teens the bright colours will catch their attention and it'll seem exciting and will tempt them to watch the movie
One element in the lego movie trailer is editing. For example, they used slow motion at various points. They did this because the slow motion creates a dramatic event  and it keeps you tense as your watching it because you're wondering what is about to happen next, it also seems exciting in slow motion because it makes it seem like that it is a good movie to watch. This will appeal to young children and teens, as they will get excited about these things.

The lego movie - poster campaign
lo, to analyse the representations on the poster campaign

Denotations - Batman
Connotations - fire disaster, dark costume, villain, dark clouds or some sort of storm, they give some sort of of gloomy feelings and it also seems like exciting , the colour pallet suggests that it is very dangerous, it looks like a action movie, the smoke and fire shows destruction , the wording 'dark knight' under batman suggests that he is the dark knight, the low camera makes him look powerful and possibly imitating , the idea that he is the good guy but there is something mysterious about him because of the colours how he is in half black and half white. The tagline suggests that this is how there is a disaster,
Audience context - DC character, Batman is actually the hero

Denotations - Lego movie
Connotations - Action, Lego, colourful, police and robots, this suggests to people that it looks fun and creative as it's made out of lego and it seems very futuristic
Audience Context - they might've seen the lego movie before so they already know what to do and the goals of the game

The colours on the lego movie video game suggests that this is a very creative game as the colour pallet is colourful so it can also suggest that it's fun. Emmet and wdylestyle could perhaps be like the main characters in the game as they are at the front which suggests that they are the most important, like they are in the movie. Also , maybe lord business is also quite important in the game because his character in the image is quite big and obvious compared to some of the others. Emmet is holding a spanner which could suggest you have to build things in the game, especially as it's made out of lego. The font is blocky which could mean that the game is a bit over the place because the font isn't neat and it seems very bold so the game isn't calm and it's very loud and adventurous

the lego movie: representation
lo, to analyse the representations throughout the lego movie promotional campaign

1) popular boy - masculine, sporty, smells nice, got all the girls
2) a boy with down syndrome in a wheel chair - not popular, tries to hide himself, gets bullied
3) nerd, not known by many people, hardly any friends, kind of invisible and quiet
4) outcast, not important to anyone, gets bullied a bit, mostly invisible, has no friends
5)very stereotypical teenage girl, pretty, wears nice clothes, dancer, gets boys, the boss of her friend group, sassy

1) Wyldstyle has colour in her hair, a nice smile, freckles, makeup, nice eyebrows and lashes etc, this supports the stereotypes of her gender

wyldstyle also has black hair and is wearing all black clothes, a tracksuit thing with purple graffiti like design on one side, she looks a bit 'emo' , these elements challenge the stereotypes of her gender.
these elements help bring a wider audience because teenage people who are a bit like wyldstyle in real life can maybe relate to her, such as teenagers who like having a 'emo' style, or people who didn't grow up as 'girly' as you can see from wdylestlyes appearance that she isn't ur average teenage girl.
wydlestlye challenges the stereotype for girls as she's wearing a black tracksuit and in the poster it looks like she is about to fight which doesn't fit in the stereotype. In the film trailer, she is challenging female stereotypes by fighting and saving people, also speaking up for emmet even though men usually do that
ventruvious looks like he is a old character as he was wrinkles on his face and grey hair, with a beard.
the villain looks middle aged as when he takes off his helmet, he has brownish with a mix of grey hair as well with some wrinkles on his face.
the other characters  such as wdylestyle and emmet look quite young as wylestyle has her hair dyed which most teenagers or young adults get, and makeup on and has no wrinkles on her face which suggests she's in her young adults, the same with emmet. He looks young too as he has no wrinkles on him but he also has a job as a builder which suggests he's older then teens even though he may act a bit immature in some of the movie.
Benky however acts more of a child, when he talks or speaks you can't see any of his teeth which suggests he may be baby, he also get's very excited when he gets to build space ships and is generally very energetic  and talks as if it was a young child.
